In AfterShot's favor, it lets you create as many catalogs as you want. Other similar software usually starts you off with a fresh premade catalog. On my first attempt at importing images, I got a message saying I had to have a catalog open to complete the activity, a simple matter of going to File > New Catalog. It's odd that AfterShot's importing is so hard to find given how vocal Corel is about fast import speeds. Most other photo apps ease this process by finding the photos on a card automatically. What about importing from camera media? For that, you have to navigate through the SD card's folders to get started. In fact, you must navigate down to the File menu's ninth choice, Import Photos from Folder, to kick off an import. The app's interface lacks a clear Import button, and it doesn't pop up any helpful message when you plug in an SDHC card. The way AfterShot imports photos could use a lot of improvement. The program now includes useful HDR tools, red-eye removal, and more. Additionally, Corel claims the current 64-bit AfterShot offers the fastest camera raw file conversion. The software goes beyond its closest competitor, Photo Mechanic, by including lighting and color adjustments, blemish removal tools, and presets. Although Corel continues to maintain the software with new camera model support and general bug-squashing, it hasn't released any substantial new features in quite some time. In the years that we've been reviewing the photo workflow software Corel AfterShot Pro, it has always been weak at importing and sharing photos, not to mention some of the editing steps in between.
